Help! With organizational skills for school. Care to share??

  1. I have a binder for each class. Then I put each day of notes behind its own tab, with the tab labeled with the chapter number/title and date.

I also have 4 file holders where I store the notes from the classes I've finished in the files.

I have a dry-erase calendar above my desk where I write major assignment due dates, quizzes, and tests down.

Syllabus calendars are stored at the beginning of every binder and I "x" each day as it passes.

I have an 8 x 11 assignment notebook that I write all my assignments and reminders in.

After 22 years of school, I've found these things to keep me the most organized. But if you can't tell, I'm kind of an organization freak. Don't hesitate to email me if you need any other tips or suggestions :)

  2. I wish I could be of more help, but being that I am just starting out I probably don't have much advice.
I got a 3" binder for each class with dividers to seperate all of the units. I was told to get lots of index cards and make lots of flashcards. Get lots of highlighters. And print off all of the powerpoints before classes begin. Also get a big planner and write down everything.
Just do what you like to do to stay organized! :)

  3. I wish I would have had a computer when I went to Nursing school. :( I type way faster than I write and can actually keep up as someone talks....Life would have been so much easier!

  4. Late to comment and catch up on my reading but what I have found works for me is a lot like what Marianne does.

I have a (color coded) binder for each class and all the handouts/slides/notes/syllabus go into that binder.

And I know this is going to sound redundant and time consuming but this is how I study:

Take notes for class on handout (if given one) or in notebook.

That same night, go home and type up notes, adding in more details/images/whatever will help me remember the info. Some notes have worked out to 10+ pages once everything is compiled. Then I just study from the typed notes. It's how I managed to get an A in an 8 week summer A&P 1 class and how I have studied since my undergrad days.

I also carry around a full size planner that is color coded to match the binders where I write down assignment dates/work schedules/everything important. This also gets backed up to my laptop and phone so it is always on me.

  5. For the year I spent in my LPN program I barely had any organization. I did make sure I kept all the syllabi so I was aware of assignments and tests. I put those things into my iCal and sync'd it with my phone for extra reminders.

I think for this fall I'm going to employ a different system than I have ever done with any school up to this point. I bought Circa notebooks, which are kind of spendy and Staples does have an alternative, but they allow you to move pages within notebooks and I bought a desk punch so I could have everything punched and ready. I think what I'm going to do is take notes and store them according to tests/quizzes that way there is no searching for what notes you need to review.

I also utilize the big dry erase calendar whiteboard method with color coded everything. I keep a planner but it hardly ever gets written in to make it effective and useful.

I would employ the use of a master calendar for all your classes so you can plan what the semester looks like week by week.
